The RPG Appreciation Thread

And yet any dialogue that leads to an over-arching experience means there's a story. A story doesn't need to be shoved anywhere in any way, it's just there.
And thus a story is required to truly role play.

The only way there isn't is if you go through a game with literally no talking or communication in any way about how, what or where you're going/doing/did.
Or the dialogue is entirely random and has nothing to do with anything.

All of that would remove it from the RPG genre and would just be Exploration for no reason.
It'd be Minecraft lol
As for your point, you lost me. We're just saying we enjoyed the story and how it was told, and that the atmosphere was more important than anything else in that game. The atmosphere in Dark Souls is so thick, so well integrated into the gameplay and characters that it takes the place of traditional storytelling.

You say he won't "miss out" on the story, we say he will, let's just agree to disagree.

What? No man, my original reply was to the comment of "atmosphere always > story". ALWAYS is of course wrong because than wouldn't make sense.

However in Dark Souls specifically i can understand because it's quite light on the story and is all about what you're doing at the moment.
I wasn't arguing for Dark Souls specifically.

However i won't quit saying you'll miss nothing with the story lol, the story is kind of a joke and doesn't really matter in the game, thus you dont' miss much if you skip it.

Just Pokemon. Simple to pick up, yet hard to master. Anyone who thinks picking ubers=endgame needs to try getting into it hardcore.

Any other RPG is side interest.....
I outta be ashamed. I forgot all about Pokemon. That was my first RPG. I only owned gold but man was that fun when I was little. Especially since I didn't know wth I was doing. I remember my cousin fussing me out because I wasted a master ball (I think that's what its call wasn't there only one in the game?) catching a level 6 Jigglypuff. Good times man, goooood times.

People beat dark souls at lvl 1. If that doesn't show how little emphasis there is on grinding, I don't know what does.

Also I adore the story of Dark Souls, the way it's delivered is amazing because you actually have to piece together clues to figure out a lot of the information.

Ya, via speed running, which i brought up already. I haven't heard of anyone beating it at level 1 that does everything. Because THAT would be friggin hard.
