The Weight Loss Thread

It's best to weigh yourself once every 3-4 weeks, rather than once every week.

It allows you to psychologically relax and enjoy the exercising process (and we do best at things we enjoy), and there may be times were you gain weight for something you've even done right (like drinking a lot of water). Having a long time limit allows you to properly assess what's going on with your body.

Anyone here used a machine called Jacob's ladder? I was on it for a little less than 20 minutes yesterday and I was freaking DYING. Burned something like 400 calories. CWAZY! My legs almost feel like I squatted.

Well, a report.

I'm down to 223.5 from 228 from the first time I posted. I started muscle training 3 days a week since I first posted here. Yesterdays muscle training was helping a friend move, carrying boxes/moving furniture for about 3 hours. Today I just got done with a double loop of Mt. Watatic- 8.4 miles; and I swam across the local pond.. dunno how big it is, but it took me about an hour. My diet has been the biggest problem- in addition to eating healthy and keeping my calorie count down, my high blood pressure makes it so I have to watch my sodium and cholesterol like a hawk. Any tips on dealing with that kind of stuff?

If you got a Hypertension then you should watch out with strength training. Lifting heavy weights with HBP can cause a stroke. How high your BP is and do you measure it at home? Also, do you take any blood pressure lowering medications? Depending on how high your BP is, you should go for lighter weights with more repetitions. Also, never hold your breath during lifting exercise, I wouldn't recommend drinking coffee and energy drinks too because they increase BP.

Losing weight and cardio exercise will lower the BP in the long run. Maybe now you have an elevated blood pressure because of your weight and it might go back to normal once you hit your weight goal.

That's what's up, losing the extra weight, keep at it! It's amazing what a little resistance training can do.

Like Ring said, it's pretty dangerous to do strength training while having high blood pressure. Ways to lower blood pressure is reducing your sodium intake. Boneless skinless chicken breasts are the way to go with this, using no seasonings except for it's natural broth (It tastes pretty good when baked). Mixed veggies with no ranch in your diet also lowers your sodium intake, and if your working out, naturally your blood pressure will go down when following these steps. Fast foods are a no-no when dealing with high blood pressure, everything in it have high amounts of sodium. Also during your strength training, if you have a Heart Rate Monitor use it to avoid any possible injuries when lifting. I naturally know when my body has had too much, when my heart starts pumpin to hard and if it gets difficult to breath then I know i'm goin to far. Hope these help

Also I know this is kinda off subject, but during the p90x routine yesterday I pulled 134 pull-ups! If you guys didn't know, when I first started this program I couldn't even do one pull up. I was happy when I got to 7 in a row, but now I can do 20 and more! I'm also able to do 1 arm pull-ups now, talkin' about bringing it! X
