Taki's Replacement Revealed?!

This is... this is a blonde?

I see what you're doing Daishi. You heard Cass and Taki were my favorite characters so you tried to roll them into one didn't you? I really don't know what to think of the result. However I'm a little surprised that it seems to be aimed squarely at me. So... thanks?

The new girl's got some big shoes to fill. And some large cups as well. I'm a little disappointed but I'm not upset. Though I know some people will be. A lot of people probably. I'll wait to see more at comic con and reserve judgement. But what of Taki? Does that mean no more PO? Or did she trust this new girl with her weapons? Will we be seeing her again?

As for the new chick, I can't tell too much about her yet, but I just hope her 2p has a more sensible hairstyle. This one's hard for me to look at. Maybe it looks better in game but in the illustration it's just too busy. If I might make a suggestion via my epic photoshop skills:

I'll give her this though, she's not carting her boobs around in a wheelbarrow. I gotta commend the design team for that.

Haha, congrats on the new main Ghengis.

Anyway, my take on this is aligned with whoever said (sorry I can't refind the post) that the team seems to have created too big of an unneeded restriction with the 17 year time skip. I have nothing against the character design per say other than her being blonde for no adequately explored reason (yet) but still with a costume that much like Taki why not just give us Taki? Sure the personality seems differnt but still a personality change is kinda needed to differentiate her from Taki sort of like how spunky and comical Asuka replaced the calm and serious Jun. The reason I like the idea of new blood is drastically different weapon styles and gameplay possibilities and more room for creatitvity from the development team but if they plan on just repackaging old characters then I am opposed. Anyway I still want to see Arthurina (that is what I am calling her) in a gameplay video in order to truly judge her.

Setting the game 17 years in the future is probably the smartest thing they could do, like it or not. People are just bored of the same shit over and over and over, even if it's a good shit. What else could Taki do that doesn't involve something stupid and simple like teaming up another character or changing sides. Maxi, Kilik, Xianguha, Taki, Rapahel, Rock, Seong Mina, Voldo, Cervantes and many others have absolutely nothing else to offer to this franchise story-wise.

You might think that killing or taking out a fan favorite is a big mess, but it gives fresh air and helps set up a totally new eviroment in which they can return later with new things to do. You can expect several characters to dissapear in the following chapters of the franchise, just to make an epic comeback years later. Is is a very smart strategy. Make people fall in love with a character, make a ridiculously long time jump and replace the character with a similar one. Then, when the franchise is stuck, go back to one of the unused 'time slots' and make both characters appear again together and create some connection between them. This makes both characters much more deep and iteresting, appart of making the game enjoyable for both the ones who grew up playing with, say Taki for example, and the ones who have only known the new one. This was used in street fighter and gave an outstanding result.

In later years, peoplle will feel nostalgic about SoulCalibur classic era and Namco can use either the long time between SE and SC, SC and SCII, or SCIV and SCV.

Besides, what story can Taki use? 'Soul Edge has returned and a 40 year old woman in tights must return to -once again- destroy it'? That got old by SCII. I personally think that replacing characters like Taki is a very interesting strategy and the results could turn out really cool if done correctly. They tried doing it but failed when they replaced Hwang, and Namco doesn't make the same mistake twice. This strategy done correctly can give great results, and I think the series is heading the right direction.

The problem here, I think, is that people are getting carried away because their beloved characters are gone. They are not really concerned about making the new game a new game, they are thinking about themselves and not the series. Heck, if the series was in hands of many people in here it would not go further than the next game. If you want see more games in the future you have to start setting up said future. In fact, it was clear already since SCIII that we were going to see a game centered in the offspring of sophitia and the destruction of nightmare -in fact, i was surprised the jump wasn't done in SCIV. If you want a series to flourish you have to stop PMSing over shit like this.

I hope she doesn't replace Taki. I like her ninja suit, but she is not bodacious enough. I also hope she is not like 15. Namco has recognized SC is more popular in the west, so I hope they don't shove these under age girls down our throats.

They should use a mask to cover half of her face like Taki used to wear, it might make her look better. Hopefully this isn't her replacement but the only female character that i am interested in is Ivy...I don't care to much for this Amy or Setsuka looking Taki-ish thing.
