Wouldn't you say, though, that allowing you to pick what mission to take in the order you choose is non-linear? You are still driven to a point, but how you proceed to that point is not forced upon you.
This would mean that segments in FF4 and FF6 are non-linear, as you can choose to pick up Leviathan, take on the Sylph Cavern, pick up Bahamut, choose not to get the ultimate weapons in the final dungeon, decide the order in which characters you pick up in the World of Ruin and which optional dungeons to take on.
Well sure, but it's still an illusion. I mean FF7 does the same thing, spreading out many possibilites with only a few musts. FF9 too and X but it don't matter much. I don't care either way, it's all about how they do what they do....do for any and all games.
