Meh...well a serious answer from me is : It's merely a measurement.

0 points, disney land.

13 points, there's a bit of violence... guns... maybe text references to mild sexual things.

17 points, lots of violence, and/or sex, or a bit of that and a bit of "the story should be more interesting for older players."

The age is retarded. I just see it as a measurement, it has nothing to do with age.

to base ANYTHING to an age requirment is very generic. you have to be 17 to see an r rated movie, you have to be 16 to drive, 21 to drink etc etc.... I have seen (along with most of you) a 16 year old that has his shit together way more than a 21 year old who is able to vote and decide things for our country. But how else can the government regulate products or services that would require a certain level of maturity. To have a competence quizz for everyone for every thing would be ridiculous and offending to most people. So they do the "age" thing. They have toaassume that when you reach that age your are compentant enough to make a wise decision, such as buy the right video game, vote for the right person etc. So i think plume has the right idea.
