The repair thing depends on how old the motor is. It's expensive from >1980's-1995< in my opinion. This is mainly because parts for motors older than the 80's are much more expensive just to get them and for newer models all the electronics the vehicles have make it more expensive. Not to mention the absurd amount of "Special tools" you have to have just to work on a newer motor. LolI agree w/ some of what you said.
A lot of people just buy a car straight out w/o taking it to a mechanic which is completely ridiculous, but hey that's them.
As for repairs, I can't say that w/ experience a V8 has cost less to tune up or repair.
