UFC 2009 Undisputed

I started to read all that shit, then I got here and had to stop.

in half guard, your opponent can do a minor transition to get to side control, and you can't stop him by transition blocking because it's a minor transition as opposed to a major transition.

This is patently false. Minor and major transitions can be blocked. Only major transitions can be reversed, although if the opponent tries for a minor transition, you get an option-select transition block. However, if you miss a reversal, you are unable to defend yourself momentarily from any grappling offensive.

PS: A decent opponent knows your punches from the bottom of half guard do negligible damage and will just gas you out and let you continue until they are ready to KO or submit you. Your activity on the ground allows the fight to stay grounded. If you are blocking and your opponent still is trying to just transition block, the ref will stand you up.

yes, minor transitions can be transition blocked, but not consistently. attempting to use transition block to prevent minor transitions is a poor strategy because it just doesn't work well. and by transition reversal, i meant the flicking of the right stick. it doesn't always result in something that could accurately be described as a "reversal," but i haven't seen anyone use another name for it. so yes, you could call it an option select transition block, but that makes the terminology confusing, since i was trying to label holding the right stick transition blocking and flicking the right stick transition reversals.

as far as gassing yourself out on the bottom goes, you can simply stop punching for a second and you'll regain your stamina. no one gasses themselves out that way. and again, if you're holding block, it prevents you from doing anything else, which means that your opponent can transition at will. online, you can't react to a transition attempt quickly enough to do anything about it if you're holding block. it may be different offline, but in terms of online play, transition blocking and then attempting to time a transition as your opponent strikes you is much more efficient. strikes from half guard are just distractions aimed to divert your attention from the real threat of a transition attempt. on their own, strikes from half guard don't do much and they allow the player on the bottom to transition with relative ease. also, only a terrible player would allow a ref standup to occur while they were on top. any kind of action will prevent the ref standup. i've never seen that strategy work. do you play online? if so, are you on 360 or ps3, and how often have you seen that strategy work?

I finally got this for the PS3 and I am loving it. Once I go through career mode, I will be playing this online.

anyone still playing this? i got bored of it when the gameplay slowed down. did any of you guys get good enough to move beyond the slow, tedious, both people neutralizing each other and doing nothing style? is the stalemate pace the height of the game's depth?
