You got me there with the time it took to cast spells. Though I don't recall my spells doing exactly 9999 dmg, but it has been ages since I played. Haha.Magic was extremely underpowered in the old Star Ocean games (I'm not sure about the newer games, though) and it was the only thing I hated about the battle system because it rendered spellcasting characters useless (except Rena and her healing spells). The spells took too long to cast and did only 9999dmg at most, where as normal combat skills of other characters were much more quicker and more powerful.
The easiest solution would be to make the spells multi-hit so that they can keep up with the melee damage.
Chisato's Tear Gas was *this* close from being game breaking OP in the PSX version. Over 20 hits + stun, sick damage. I read it was nerfed in the "Second Evolution" on PSP, haha.
Haha. I am going for it cause I love a challenge.Lmao! No way... some of these RPG games are just too insane that I don't want to bother grinding for good items and EXP for hours on end. I usually just like the story line and a challenge, but not when bosses can insta-kill you at will!

Hahaha. I wouldn't go as far to call it that. I never played that tales game though. I have played Tales of Phantasa and Tales of Destiny II, but that's off topic. LolIt's not a challenge... it's... it's.. Masochism! Lol, well Tale of Vesperia had similar tough times in that game, I spent like 100+ hours on that game!
