I played First Departure on PSP, Second Story on PSX and a bit of Till the end of time.

Second Story is by far my favorite. I liked the characters and story. Also, Chisato and her OP Tear Gas lol. First Departure was worse imo. I didn't like the PS2 game at all.

I remember that. I thought Noel's Quake spell was pretty OP as well

I LOVE Star Ocean RPGs!

My favorite was "Till the End of Time" I really liked TLH also, but I wish the game would have rewarded you more with cooler items, and gamer score. Lol, I beat the whole game and had like 200Gs.

Did you beat Gabriel Celestia or the Ethereal Queen on TLH? I didn't but I looked up what achievements were available and the fact you have to beat it on Chaos mode scares me. Lol

Magic was extremely underpowered in the old Star Ocean games (I'm not sure about the newer games, though) and it was the only thing I hated about the battle system because it rendered spellcasting characters useless (except Rena and her healing spells). The spells took too long to cast and did only 9999dmg at most, where as normal combat skills of other characters were much more quicker and more powerful.

The easiest solution would be to make the spells multi-hit so that they can keep up with the melee damage.

Chisato's Tear Gas was *this* close from being game breaking OP in the PSX version. Over 20 hits + stun, sick damage. I read it was nerfed in the "Second Evolution" on PSP, haha.

Lmao! No way... some of these RPG games are just too insane that I don't want to bother grinding for good items and EXP for hours on end. I usually just like the story line and a challenge, but not when bosses can insta-kill you at will!

Most of the Tri-Ace games have magic pretty OP, at least the older ones.

Also Star Ocean have such nice engine it is a pity that I had so few times playing it.
