YES! there is some type of genius to it. There is just no point of using skills on mashers - you're right they just don't give a damn. hehe
 
No there is absolutely no "genius" there. If they keep attacking... they usually have a rythm to their mashing. Then you can sit there, GI the next hit, with the "rythm" and just combo or grab(not best option as mashers throw break alot) from there. Also, spacing/stepping helps big time with mashers... make sure you punish those slow moves that you see coming out.

You just have to do really boring shit that they cant do anything about if not willing to block, bu tits a waste of your time trying to condition them.

I think the mistake you're making is a pretty common one, you're connecting high level play with "stuff" that needs to be done. Like, to be a pro player I gotta do this combo and this setup and land the command grab twice. It doesn't really work that way.

All of the combos and setups you learn on 8wr or anywhere else, these are all just tools to be used in a given situation. Likewise, BB and AA and 2A are all tools as well. These tools all serve one or more purposes. So rather than trying to land a particular combo because it's something advanced that you practiced, you do the moves that work in that situation. If they keep attacking, you keep hitting them with B,B.

Also "scrubs" are players that are incapable of learning because of their attitude. You asking questions and actively seeking answers places you outside of that category. You just lack experience, nothing negative about that, so calling yourself a scrub isn't a good idea.
