After the 1st month of NBA Action here's the standings for both Eastern and Western Conferences.
In the Eastern Conference, the New York Knicks are in 1st place, followed by Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Indiana, and Philadelphia. Boston, Orlando, Charlotte, Detroit, Toronto, Cleveland, and Washington are bringing up the rear.
In the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder are in first place, followed by San Antonio, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis, Golden State, Minnesota, Utah, and Denver. Houston, Dallas, Portland, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix, Sacramento, and New Orleans are bringing up the rear.
Some notes to mention
The Los Angeles Lakers aren't looking like their dominant superstar selves as they suffered losses to Cleveland and New York but they managed to at least turn things around in defeating Washington. While on the subject of Laker Land, Lakers Power Forward Pau Gasol is on the shelf with a knee tendinitis injury. Gasol has not been as effective as Lakers' head coach Mike D'Antoni would like as the offensive flow of the Lakers would be more suited for another injured Laker, Steve Nash. No word on when either Gasol or Nash will return to action.
The New Orleans Hornets are looking to change their nickname to the Pelicans, in honor of the state bird of Louisiana. While there are some criticism and skepticism amongst fans and everyone around the NBA, nothing has been set in stone. Should the name change go in effect, the Charlotte Bobcats franchise should consider bringing back the Hornets nickname.
In the Rookie of the Year race, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has been on a roll. He's been leading the team and could be the face of the Blazers. Other considerations for Rookie of the Year include Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers of the New Orleans Hornets, Michael Kidd Gilchrist of the Charlotte Bobcats, Alexey Shved of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Harrison Barnes of the Golden State Warriors, and Kyle Singler of the Detroit Pistons, who has been a surprise addition to the race.
