A thread for the discussion of games you love that missed the mainstream and deserve a look-in by other people! A place to promote those games you adore that nobody thinks exists.
I'll get the ball rolling by talking about Radiant Historia, because that is one of the best games I've ever played.
A DS RPG, the battle system is tactical, engaging and unique, being designed around building combos and such by moving your opponents around. It manages to capture action and quick-thinking whilst remaining turn based.
The writing is also some of the best I've ever seen, with some of the best characters to star in an RPG ever. For those who hate overly drawn out character development plots and such, you'll certainly love Radiant Historia, which strikes the balance between character developing, telling the main story, and letting you get on with, though often the cut-scenes can be a little lengthy.
Which isn't so bad because you can skip them.
The music is fantastic, and whilst it can sometimes get a tiny bit repetitive, it's so good that you just don't mind.
Pros:
+ Brilliant story, of which I'll reveal not even the tiniest spoiler.
+ Unique story-telling mechanics.
+ Unique and engaging battle mechanics.
+ Interesting characters that aren't stereotypes.
+ The soundtrack is simply inspiring.
+ It'll last you a LONG time, even without the side quests.
+ Relatively challenging without being frustratingly broken.
Cons:
- Cut-scenes can often be lengthy, and at times the game can get quite text-heavy.
- Battles are fun, but can sometimes last a long time.
