Being able to mod the game would be a double-edged sword. But, you'd end up massively fracturing the community. Things like new maps/costumes wouldn't be too bad (but even those are a pain to wait for to download for fps's). Inevitably, any fan-made balance patches would be doomed to split the community, as look at how impossible it is for anyone here to agree on anything in that regards.

There's also the inevitable flood of cheaters that would come with any online pc game. At least, a console adds a significant barrier to cheating (but by no means perfect).

You'd also better hope your computer is powerful enough to maintain a steady framerate all the time. I know that if I play SC4 on any 360/ps3 it'll run the same, that would not be true of a pc version (complicating tournmanent organization if there isn't also a console version).

That said, a pc fighting game has the opportunity to use a completely different control scheme with the keyboard and mouse. Being able to say aim projectile attacks instead of being limited to a fixed set of angles could be interesting. You'd also have enough buttons to be able to make things like jump/crouch/run/dash their own buttons, instead of overloading the block button or requiring double-taps to run/dash.

I learned playing SF with the keyboard. Never really got the practise with a stick until last year. I think I would do way better with a keyboard anyways.

In 3d games it requires more hold buttons though. Keyboards tend to fuck that up.

If you're not playing with a keyboard, you have no business playing fighters on a console imo.

The only problem maybe is if the OS is 64bit. Not many programs are compatible for 64bit OS I heard. I can't even get my PS3 controller to work for Vista 64 bit; don't bother asking why I bought Vista 64 bit as it derails the topic.

This hasn't really been true for about 2 or 3 years. The ps3 controller isn't supported by windows, so you'd have to get an unofficial driver that someone hacked together. For homebrew stuff like that, you're more likely to have compatibility issues since you need to have more in-depth knowledge of the hardware architecture, but pretty much any piece of commercial software has a 64 bit version or is compatible with 64 bit vista out of the box.

There's no real reason not to have fighting games on the PC except for the fact that the companies may just choose not to make a pc port because of profits. A good keyboard is way better than pretty much any of the current gen pads and possibly better than a stick even, though of course it really just comes down to what you are most comfortable with.

The only real problem is with double inputs, and if you're keys aren't springy enough, with very timing intensive combos. I've played on a stick for so long, that its sort of weird having to press as hard as I have to to get inputs out on my keyboard.
