hey dudes,

this has probably been asked before, but can y'all recommend me an anime that meets the following criteria:

not teen/tween-centric. i.e. contains dark/mature themes

not particularly comedic, unless we're talking Detroit Metal City / Gyagu Manga - style comedy

is violent, action-adventure-oriented, and/or philosophical

kicks as much ass as Death Note, Berserk, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Ergo Proxy, Rurouni Kenshin, and Samurai Champloo.

You ask the impossible sir. However I never heard of DMC. After looking it up, it's time to watch it.

And I would suggest Black Lagoon, but that show is terrible. However, it does do its level best (and fails) to meet the requirements on your list.

Anime doesn't really do the "dark" or "philosophical" things very well at all, so don't get your hopes up.

Watch FLCL, though. And since you list Akira I'd guess movies are alright; watch Sword of the Stranger.
