I'm a critic and I know what is good and what people would go "meh" about.

Sorry but no, you're basing what people would think based on your personal preferences. Not trying to start anything but I dislike the whole "Critic always knows what people like" thing.

Back to the topic, I'm thinking of watching The world god only knows, how is it compared to the manga? Anyone watch it yet?

oh but I don't purely base my thoughts on just personal preferences. I admit that mine are in there but I don't rant about something unless I see evidence. I didn't mean to sound like I know what people like. I'm not like that. I see how people react to a certain thing and I make a note of it. in my last post I gave examples. yeah I have my own personal taste and they're pretty strict but I never shoot anything down unless I see or experience it first. (well for most things). Then I take what I saw or experienced and discuss it with other people to see what they think about the subject and I make a note of that. I mean come on. I watched a movie called Shortbus all the way through because it had a singer I really liked in it and it was referred to me. Now keep in mind that I'm straight and still thought the movie was pretty good from an overall stand point. the characters were really in depth and story was good. I would like to see most straight people sit through that movie without looking away and getting past the homosexual-ism in it.
Ironically I never finished black lagoon because it had like nothing sexual in it what so ever which was stupid considering it isn't one of those kiddy animes.
I can't believe you didn't finish watching a really good show because it lacked sexual themes. I know it's your particular taste but I'm just letting you know you're missing out on a lot of good stuff because of this.

Black Lagoon is boring, takes itself way too seriously, has one of the most obnoxious protagonists in all of non-giant robot anime, and (so far) ends with a totally pointless and lame story arc.

Highschool of the Dead is so wrapped up in cheesecake that it forgets to be interesting most of the time, and when it does try to do something it repeats 20 year old cliches with a zombie-like inevitability and ineptitude. Maybe I'll get around to watching a few more episodes some day so I can give a full report, but I doubt it. I've seen the best of what zombies have to offer, and Highschool of the Dead isn't even trying.
