I know someone who had laser eye surgery and still needs contacts. Losing dependancy on corrective eyewear is not assured with any procedure. Additionally, it's very common to need laser eye surgery again in the future; as the operations of the recent past infrequently proved longlasting. Things have changed a bit today, but given today is today; only time can tell the long-term outcome - altho I do hope for the best. Contacts aren't that much of a burden; I would personally stick with contacts and a pair of glasses (for when you're lazy at home or want a new look) for another 2-3 years. I have reason to believe in about that time laser eye surgery will advance to the results you're looking for (no pun intended!).
