I am new to fighting games, and have a question about SCV

Hello. I am from Sweden, and I come from a background of real time strategy games. I play a lot of StarCraft: Brood War, and have chosen SCV as my first fighting game because I like some of the characters, and it seems to have good balance compared to other fighting games (Imbalance is a major reason I didn't get in to fighting games earlier. I am used to Brood War which only has three
races and nine 5 - 5 matchups). I also enjoy watching this game. It's cool how good players of the same character can have such different styles, just like in StarCraft. This game seems to be about mind vs mind, not character vs character. Your character is a weapon that you can push extremely far, and that does not limit you (Unlike in SF4).

Another nice thing about SCV is that it seems to have an infinite skill ceiling, unlike Street Fighter 4 which, as far as I can tell, is quite limiting (on top of being heavily imbalanced).

My favourite characters are Ivy and Aeon. I tried playing Aeon but he felt really weird and unintuitive to me, not playing to my strengths at all, so I picked Ivy. However, I still want to watch Aeon, so I ask you, who are some of the best Aeon players? (In the world, or just in one region)

Edit: One more question: Can you just guard unblockable moves?

Welcome sir. It sounds like you're rather observant, that cobined with the skills you've developed from RTS should serve you well in Soulcalibur.

There aren't too many good Aeon players out there unfortunately. I believe most of the skilled Aeon players reside on XBL rather than PSN(which is unusual since PSN tends to have more big-name tourney players overall), though I may be wrong there easily.

Hey vOddy, I'm a Starcraft player and Soul Calibur is also the first fighting game that I've really gotten into. Although I played SC II and IV, I didn't follow the competitive scene until V.

I'm glad to hear that you're picking up Soul Calibur now and I agree with you on a lot of your points! IMO, Soul Calibur has the most interesting cast of characters of all of the fighting games because of how different and unique their personalities, nationalites, and fighting styles are. Overall, scv's balance is very good and there are a lot of opportunities for mind games and mixups. High level play is very exciting to watch and its worlds apart from low level play!

Unfortunately, I don't think you'll be able to find many videos of top level aeon play on youtube, but hopefully someone can give you names of aeon players who play relatively well. Out of curiosity, may I ask you if you play Starcraft 2 and if you got into SCV because of MLG? I don't know of you swedes watch MLG, but I definitely watch Dreamhack. =)
