Of course, I then proceeded to get rolled, but the one and only Michael Jackson bought me a buffet pass at Golden Corral as my own little consolation prize. I didn’t need all-you-can-eat fried chicken and mashed potatoes to keep me interested, though — I was already hooked.
Well this is a positive article about the appeal of the competitive scene. But there obvious challenges. Getting new individuals interested in the competitive side of an FG is hard. Getting them to spend money to travel for it even harder. I
If that pans out, Manchester's probably accessible... London though, well we'll have to see if the Dragons invest in my cardboard beach furniture before I can go there regularly.
See, I'm by no means new to here or Soulcalibur itself, I first came here back before caliburforum went belly up. back then all I could see was constant arguing and complaining at each other, and while I haven't seen that since, people seem to still have those very polar opinions, they're just quieter. And I seen to be on the wrong side of the tournament=hardcore, not=casual argument, customs shouldnt be used online argument, blah, and I don't feel intimidated by that, but I don't feel like spending money to go meet these people, soulcalibur or not... experiences with others of a simlar background haven't helped either :/Well this is a positive article about the appeal of the competitive scene. But there obvious challenges. Getting new individuals interested in the competitive side of an FG is hard. Getting them to spend money to travel for it even harder. I mean even those that are willing and eager to go can't always do it for various reasons. And I never want to force anyone to go, only to have his/her wallet regret it afterwards....despite how fun it might be. And that's the reality of it.
But what I can sell you is the atmosphere.
Of course this requires a coordinated effort from us the community, and yourself the player. If we're doing our job right on 8wayrun, and promoting the right atmosphere to keep people interested...then bit by bit more people will want to invest into the tournament scene. Baby steps. If I am to ask you to support the community, in turn it's only fair you ask what has the community done for you.
Prime examples, VC and Hilde. Here on 8wayrun we have a habit of looking at the positives and ignoring the negatives. Blind optimism is dangerous because where an opportunity to fix an issue arises, we don't deliver until the problem festers.
But if you can't travel, you can still tune in for tournament streams. Remove your adblock, because we need that ad revenue :)
