Hate Speech: A Seasonal Feast

Does any body really praise SC2 for superior competitive gameplay from it's successors? As far as competitive SC is concerned SC2 really only exceeds with its size of the community. But I dare say as a game, on the merits of game design alone it tramples over SC3 and SC4.

IMO SC3 had the best mechanics.

Do you mean it is trampled by sc3 and 4?

Something doesn't have to be unsafe on block to demand thoughtfulness--the risks you outlined there are good things. I see good-yet-risky moves as little nodes where systemic depth begins to attach in fighting games...
Yep. It's interesting because VF also arguably has stronger defensive options than SC, but it seldom devolves into a roach-fest. Everything is designed to reward smart reads, and for the most part it works rather beautifully. This seems to be a guiding principle in SC5 so far, which I'm glad to see.
