on Tekken:
if you're worried about making the site early enough, i.e. before the game is released, then i think it's already too late. pretty much any information currently available is already on Tekken Zaibatsu.
the game, as we all know, has been out for several months already. TZ has all the character forums and relevant info already accessible, as well as the older character forums for general strategy and reference. so in terms of information, i doubt anyone from this community could contribute much that is new or exclusive. and i think that information is the primary reason for sites like TZ or 8WR or SRK, etc., so unless someone will be pilfering information from TZ, which i think would be wrong, it'll be a slow start for sure.
i do agree, however, that the format, layout, and options found on 8wayrun are leagues better than anything else on the 'net. and i don't disagree with the expansion into other games that this community, i.e. the SC community, also enjoys. but i honestly don't see the point if you're catering to competitive scenes/players. Zaibatsu is already established as the place to go for in-depth tekken info (english-speaking, that is), and newbies who want to get more competitive will most likely bump into that site long before any other site. 8wrers who want to dabble in Tekken might find a home-spun sub-forum a comfortable place to learn and hang out, but if they're serious about Tekken they probably already go to Zaibatsu.
Jaxel, if i can make an alternative suggestion, what i think you should do with your excellent layout and forum vision is make a brand new site (maybe in name only) that is dedicated to tournaments and videos for fighting games, period. not exclusive to any particular fighter, build a general network for tournament play, incorporating all the elements you have here for SC tournies into one giant database. technology (and other site admins) permitting, you could even link results, announcements, and user names from other sites into yours, having it update automagically or whatever.
the reason i make this suggestion is because, when it comes down to it i see two strong oppositional forces-- on the one hand there are established communities for their respective fighters which generally revolve around one large forum, of which you are a part of as admin of 8wayrun, and on the other hand you have the best site in terms of features for the forums themselves and for tournament organization.
anyway, it's just a suggestion. but one that implies an alliance between communities, rather than a potential rift.
