Not many people see eye to eye what Soul Calibur is about like you buddy. Some prefer to enjoy the cast and play it for what it is. Some really detest a certain iconic character and want to change them into a different skin via CAS and etc.
Even so, games like Soul Calibur are suppose to educate ppl what the game is all about and original characters play a major part of it. Gran Turismo is always about the collection of licensed vehicles, DOA is about their fighters, Mario Bros series is about Mario.

You can try to say CAS makes a small crack into more demand for useless stuff for a hardcore, but then that's the part where if it wasn't put in there to begin with, none of this demand for CAS stuff would happen. If CAS stuff were never put in SCIII-SCV, the game would be successful........only on the hardcore side.
That's what I agree on. Also putting CAS as a trade-off to sacrifice other modes that were in SC2 and other previous iterations is a big mistake IMO. Interactivity plays a big role to the game and each mode you play affects the way you play. These are different modes for you to interact and I believe this is what casuals like as well. I play Wipeout and they offer different modes of play aside from mainly racing. I enjoy playing Battle mode as I crush other vehicles in a pile of rubble.

Many casuals aren't into say play the game for the big competition as you know more or less. And most times, casuals outweigh the hardcores. Since casuals only care about fun part and will stand by it adamantly by competing only with friends. But the only way to get casuals into hardcore stuff is well....hope they're interested. And that's the hard part.

You can try to persuade and get them into it, but chances are we have to play the tedious "Mother"(show them the ropes and hope they're into it) after you play Father(beat them down). But it isn't an easy task due to attention span.
It's apparently obvious that many casual aren't into big competition; however, I think you look at the term "hardcore" from a different perspective. If you're, saying that hardcore is about being competitive then that's what I disagree with to a certain degree, my way of defining what hardcore is that you really love SC and attempt to collect not only the game but other SC merchandises whether you're competitive or not. But the goal isn't to get these players into being competitive (although it would be nice), but to enjoy and appreciate the game for what it truly is.

DOA and Soul Calibur are always overshadowed by Tekken and Street Fighter. And imho, if they didn't advertise Link for an one time deal and CAS to begin with for instance, maybe it would of have been a true hardcore game.
As for guest characters usually I'm not really as much against them as CAS. I would think is that the company isn't confident enough to portray their original casts so they need a guest character to aid them in order to contribute sales. However, it seems that DOA is very confident in their own iconic characters and they are represented in such a strong fashion that I wouldn't mind this VF guest character introduced.

Also Super Smash Bros being another exception, the cameos are already represented very well thanks to other games that promote them and now they have Solid Snake as a guest.


But, SCV imho comes close to a hardcore game despite having CAS and Ezio.
Doesn't that almost defeat the purpose you've made earlier? But anyways the reasons I mentioned are above.
