That virus most likely got mixed up with another apes virus and than mutated and than mutated again when it was introduced to humans (most likely hunters in Africa that eat ape brain soup and shit like that)

My guess would also be that the leap was made through Bush Meat, (probably improperly cooked or handled) but all viruses have the ability to mutate and adapt, that's why we see a new flu every year. Well that and Chinese farming practices could stand some hygienic scrutiny.
