the term "good music" is probably the most subjective term in the world... Is a bad song the same 4 chord progression in common time we hear on the radio EVERY. FREAKING. DAY? Or is it the predictable subject matter to a typical beat that individuals feel they need to share through the blasted speakers of their cell phones? It can be an auto tuned single from a 13 year old, or a technical master piece in between 300 "break downs" from guys who have a Bachelor's in music theory.
But, from a practical stand point, i can't stand listening to the radio; almost as much as i utterly shun popular opinion. i don my "musician hat" and listen to the most talented guys i can find. So, being the elitist snob musician i am, i may be inclined to input that "today's music" is another term for "Pop music" and "Pop music" is "Popular Opinion" more than music period. Look at the abominations in America that are American idol, or America's got Talent... Look at the vortex of culture that is MTV... "today's music" isnt about sound, "today's music" isnt about meaning, its about man made ideals that performers are carved into to fit a mold... Said performers dont even need to be talented. That's what auto tune is for... "Today's Music" isnt what sucks today, its the lemmings that encourage suits to factory make garbage and call it music.
