I'm not a fan of shred-style solos because I believe them to be unmemorable and uninspired. It has to be special circumstances, and they have to be buried in a particularly good song for them to work for me. Unfortunately, this overwrites most power metal for me, as the entire point of that genre is to play as fast as possible all the time. Usually at some point during a power metal band's second album their solos turn to garbage because they run out of ideas, and their fans expect every song to have a solo.
