todays music sucks

Okay in response to this I'll give you a question. Music like literature is difficult at best. How many books do you know of that were written and edited by the same author? Let alone how many books do you know in which the author was responsible of manufacturing the cover art? In an ideal world a song writer would write his songs, compose his own music, and sing his own songs right? Well what happens if they guy writing the songs has shit for a voice and is musically challenged but is a poetic lyrics writer? I guess my point is that music takes many components and sometimes people simply don't have the talent or resources to make their ideas realized by themselves. Now think in reverse. What if you had a voice so amazing it sounded like ten angels having multiple orgasms simultaneously however you utterly failed when it came to writing music? Should you give up singing all together because you can't write material of your own?

If you have a bad voice, but great ability to write lyrics and compose, this happens:

This man has an awful voice. It may not sound bad there, but he basically just talks loudly. His lyrics, though? Excellent.

Conversely:

James LaBrie's voice is excellent. He has great talent. His lyrical writing abilities are awful (they may have gotten better, I haven't paid much attention recently). Good thing the drummer writes most of the lyrics.

Also, look at underground punk or indie groups. Or grunge. Never let a sub-par singing voice keep you down, unless you want some producer speaking all your words for you. Of course, groups like the Sex Pistols were formed exclusively to play bad and sound bad. AND they were created conceptually by a producer to dupe rebellious teenagers into feeling awesome. To make money.

Basically, producing is very VERY important. But we are talking about a man (Max) that literally hand-crafted groups for THEMSELVES to make money. Those "artists" he worked with are more like actors in a stage production, except actors have to memorize their words.

Yes I never said music couldn't be made with a horrible voice or horrible instrument playing abilities all I am saying if your writing lyrics for a sappy love ballad and sound like Ozzy when he isn't singing it is probably in your best interest to find someone to sing your song for you. Ultimately people make music because they want people to listen to it and no one (and I say no one lightly.) Is going to want to listen to something that doesn't come together. As for your first example the guy's voice isn't that noticeable because the instruments accompanying him are so extremely loud. Now imagine if you were listening to an acoustic verson of the song. I hardly think that is appealing but he might surprise me. Anyway my whole point was that you can't dismiss or look down on someone's music because it was written by someone else.
