todays music sucks

No you're wrong. There is music specifically manufactured to sell to people.

I honestly, truly wish we lived in a world where this was true.

Just because you manufacture something to be popular doesn't equal focusing on one target audience. That in fact would be counter productive. When Mr. Martin writes these hits he isn't thinking...oh this would appeal to white females between the ages of 23-32 or oh this would appeal to young adults between the ages of 13-17 he is writing things that are catchy and acoustically appealing no matter what the audiences age/sex/race ect. ect. He is writing music for radio which one could safely say might even be harder to do than writing music for a movie or special collaboration because music on the radio has to "speak" to a large amount of people or they won't play it because ultimately people only listen to the radio stations that play the music they like. Writing music for the radio or for a particular performing artist doesn't diminish the art form but rather just puts an extra person in the creation process.

"I want to be part of every note, every single moment going on in the studio. I want nothing forgotten, I want nothing missed. I'm a perfectionist. The producer should decide what kind of music is being made, what it's going to sound like--all of it, the why, when and how." - LA Times, 6/05/00

Or, according to Max up there, taking out everyone but himself.

Okay in response to this I'll give you a question. Music like literature is difficult at best. How many books do you know of that were written and edited by the same author? Let alone how many books do you know in which the author was responsible of manufacturing the cover art? In an ideal world a song writer would write his songs, compose his own music, and sing his own songs right? Well what happens if they guy writing the songs has shit for a voice and is musically challenged but is a poetic lyrics writer? I guess my point is that music takes many components and sometimes people simply don't have the talent or resources to make their ideas realized by themselves. Now think in reverse. What if you had a voice so amazing it sounded like ten angels having multiple orgasms simultaneously however you utterly failed when it came to writing music? Should you give up singing all together because you can't write material of your own?
