I used to be an idealist. I used to think that me alone could "change the world", during my rebel teenage years.

I guess at some point in life, we just learn to accept things the way they are, and realize the futility of rebelling. Truth is, saying "the world is corrupt" is not wrong, but actually thinking you can do anything about it IS wrong.

It's almost like re-realizing that "life is unfair" decades after your parents drilled it in you since day one. Sure, I knew it when I was a child, but I don't think that it fully sunk-in until around age 25 or so.

The thing is, I've nothing wrong with a bit of good old fashioned, well-meaning idealism. But when you're championing the cause for black cosplayers to cosplay white characters if they want, it's a waste of effort. And yet people spend a LOT OF TIME doing this. Why?

I wouldn't say it was inherently wrong to say you could change the world, because I believe people can do that as individuals. After all, we shaped our own society, did we not? But assuming you can single-handedly save it with the power of good will and a couple of hundred "followers" on the internet? Ludicrous. Certainly you can have an impact, but unless you're name is Adolf Hitler, then I'm doubting it. Especially when your cause is as moot as all that.
