Xenosaga and Xenogears

Xenogears' combat was innovative and i liked the way they incorporated martial arts and specials, but I agree it is way too slow. It would be perfect for the occasional fight or epic boss match or something but to have to put up with that in every random encounter did start to bug me abit. Fighting in gears worked well though IMO. Everything else about the game is a masterpiece however. Story, music, characters, all were great.

Seems the popular thing to do is hate on Xenosaga 2. Sorry but I enjoyed it. Never played Xenogears and don't plan on it. XS 1 was a random buy and I loved the scope the game had. XS 2 had me hooked into the story. Too bad it all got cut down to a trilogy. The hours of dialogue is actually nice since all the VAs were good. My little brother got bored to tears tho lol. I still have sidequests to do in 3 and I actually wanna do them! This series wins.

I enjoyed a few of the ideas about the Xenosaga games, but holy BALLS did the vague plot details, pointless and tiresome religious imagery, and putrid philosophy ever grate. It was like everything I've ever despised about anime and JRPGs in condensed form.

A lot of the things were just throw backs to Xenogears without any actual relevance to the current story.

Play Xenogears if you haven't, because Xenosaga doesn't hold a candle to the original.
