What does tech trap mean?

Getting up in this game (which is called a tech) is done by pressing G (neutral tech), 4+G (back tech), 8+G (left tech), 6+G (forward tech), or 2+G (right tech). Keep in mind these are all from first player perspective. From 2P perspective, 8+G would be a right tech, and 2+G would be a left tech.
Certain characters can do what is called a tech trap off of connecting certain moves/combos. These are character and move/combo specific. There is no way to tell other than just knowing (by researching this forum for example) or trial and error. Luckily most techtraps are posted in their respective character's soul arenas.
So when somebody lists a combo or a move, and then says a move catches right for example, that means if you tech right you will get hit if you tech right and try to stand up and guard the move. You must either tech a different way or stay on the ground. Some moves hit multiple directions and/or hit grounded, so you'll have to decide for yourself what your best option to defend against it is.
