[11] Champion
My first real tourney experience was FPS. I played a Quake 3 mod at a very competitive level, well enough to have my clan invited to the biggest invitational league around at the time (really, the only properly run NA league). During my first live match both of my hands fell asleep and I spent most of the 20 minutes walking in circles because I had totally cracked under the pressure. My clan was a complete underdog for that match anyways, and I was the most experienced player on my team (we were even playing with a ringer, from what I remember), so we got raped pretty hard on the first map.
On the second map, though, I got my shit together. It was one of the best games I've ever played, and I pretty much carried my team a sudden-death overtime round (it was a CTF mod), that we lost by one point after I died during a freak lagspike. I was extremely upset about that loss, even though I got MVP for the match (out of both teams) and we basically did x100 better than we were supposed to. I played well enough for the rest of the season, but I had to sit a few games and we didn't make it through the first round of the play-offs. I was in the next few invitationals, as well, with my last big match actually being live on GTV while I froze up and lost the game by hitting up against the round timer during another sudden-death overtime game -- for a playoff spot, too. I'm pretty sure competitive FPS scarred me emotionally, because I've never been able to compete at that level since, and last time I tried to play a competitive FPS (Warsow, maybe 6 months ago), I would spontaneously and uncontrollably start crying (only from one eye) part way through my matches, though only the serious ones. Also, as my friends have told me, I lack the "killer instinct" needed to keep competing. I may have had it once, for a little while, but not anymore.
So, from an FPS standpoint I've been in at least a dozen leagues and tourneys, and more scrims than I can remember. I also dabbled in the old Decipher Star Wars CCG for a while, though I only went to a few tourneys or gatherings; I wasn't up on the latest decks at the time, and things got ugly. O_o
I've also been to a bunch of SC tourneys, from SC2 to SC4, though I've never been very competitive at fighting games, I just like to play them.
I miss arcades, I did best there; there was just enough money incentive for me to try, and I liked the atmosphere.
