Tournament experience?

January 2007, to the summer of 2008, Super Smash Brothers Melee tournaments. I played under the name "Zm2004." I mained Mario, and only two times in the dozens of tournaments I went to did I ever use another character. My most common tourny locations were C3 and Chudat's Bi-Weeklies.

Some of my most memorable tournament moments (for me) include:

-December 22, 2007 C3 tournament (51 participants). I dominated my pool which included "Sensei" (I beat 2 wins and 0 losses) and "Chudat" (2 wins and 1 loss) and I 2-0 the rest of the pool. Overall, I got ninth in the tournament. Best tournament I ever had.

-Me and "Shinku" beating "Azen," and "Chudat," in a friendlies team match in which they wanted to use us a guinea pigs.

-Accidentally stealing "Chudat's" wii-remote, which I still have.

-Me saying bad things about "G-Reg" standing right behind him without knowing he was there.

-Beating "Chillindude829" the first time I ever played him, without knowing who he was. That was at the second tournament I ever went to, February 3, 2007. He decided to go ahead and destroy me everytime after that. Made sure he put me in my place.

-Using "Aho" to check on my progression with my Mario skills.

-Beating "AlphaZealot" (he was playing Peach). I believe I got seventh overall in that tournament.

-Getting destroyed by "Neo," so badly that in the middle of the match, I almost decided to pull out my controller and forfeit.

Looking back at it.... Good times... good times... but a waste of time too. I did have fun playing in tournaments, but by the end of the day (when I would get home) I realized, I had done nothing. I could have improved on my writing skills, my art skills, general things that I intend on getting into in the future, but instead I spent the days playing videogames.

I said that I would never go to another game tournament ever again, but there is a Soul Calibur tournament tomorrow, and a lot of my collegues are going to it, so I will be going to it too. But this will be the only one I ever go to. I suck at Soul Calibur anyway.

Hm. That's an... interesting viewpoint, if not pessimistic.

So you don't figure that there's nothing to be learned from videogames? or rather, tournaments?

I'd think that being able to handle stress and make sound decisions regardless would be applicable elsewhere... that's just me though.

You had fun. You made memories. Memories are all we have. Sounds like a good fucking time to me.

true that. When you are 50...60...you are gonna want those good memories. Hell...any day you are having a bad day you are gonna want those memories. So you spent the day having fun instead of working. You will live. :)

Maybe about 25 local tourneys or so, which were mainly Tekken. I got double peaced a lot. I generally think I'm one of those people who really isn't a tourney person, hehe.
