My sister's a teacher. Not a union member yet though. She looked into charter schools, but they pay nothing (awesome after 8 years of graduate work etc) and have onerous hiring processes, and can fire you whenever they like. Least the public schools presume that teaching is almost a worthwhile profession, and respect the first amendment 'cause of the unions.
A lot of what those unions have to deal with are political issues. Not surprising they developed a strong lobby.
They don't really have equal voting power. That's why they're electing reps etc in the first place.
The bailouts are for those "superior" genetic specimens that ran their companies into the ground more than they are for the random street bumpkin.
I like being able to fire whenever they like. Sure beats the State unions which get 60-120 days advanced notice.
Equal voting power means a taxpayer like me has the same power as a welfare leech.
Again, I don't support the bailout. And if the money went to mainstreet, I still wouldn't support it, because instead of the "superior genetic specimens," it would go to the stupid naive masses who borrow like crazy and expect responsible people to bail them out. If they ran up debt, then let them lose their home. Their kids would be innocent people who suffered? Well, give up your kids. The best thing we could do is make an example of Octo-Mom and take away 13 of her 14 kids. Once she can support 1 kid without welfare, then we'll talk about giving back the other 13. (*gasp, did I just say poor people can't have kids? Start another topic).
