The Walking Dead Games

I personally can't stand Ben's attitude. He causes so much shit and acts like a whiny pissant when I tell him off, and that I "show no confidence" in him despite him always fucking things up. Clementine at least knows her role and is genuinely helpful and entertaining. Ben can burn in hell in episode 5 for all I care, although he did ironically, and surprisingly show some major balls in episode 4.

....You let him live, seriously...?

Oh god I hate ben so much but I didn't have the heart to do it. Also why is episode 4 so heart wrenching?

Carley's my favorite character. She's like a sexy female Garrus, knows your secret, true blue reliable and dependable, good in a fight, tells funny jokes.

Then they killed her. I told my brother after I played the first episode that it was inevitable. Writers get lazy and even if they don't they only have so much time and so many resources. Eventually ala Bioware games some kind of "cleansing fire" event would have to occur and eradicate your choices to provide a reset point and make everyone's games coalesce again. And then it happened.

I actually saw Lily go for that gun and I knew that she was going to reach for it, but I fully expected some kind of chance to stop her. When it didn't happen I was shocked and I felt robbed, I actually turned the game off (after trying different things like taking the blame myself) and didn't play it again for three weeks. I guess this is the nature of the walking dead, and Lily has a destiny to fulfill, but I still didn't like it. I felt like killing the character was the easy way out and this being a game as opposed to a comic or movie, I expected to have more of an influence on events.

After I got over it though I played on, I didn't leave Lily behind, thing is I liked Lily and I didn't see a reason for two people to die. Lee was a killer too, even though in my game it'll probably turn out it was an accident, it seemed a tad hypocritical and since Lily still trusted me I figured I might need her around. Even if I detested her. She murdered my favorite character just because of some words she spoke. Petty. Nor did I want to murder Ben, I was just extremely disappointed in him and it only reinforced my opinion of him as a liability and an idiot and a pathetic waste of flesh. He let Carley take the blame. If he had fessed up sooner maybe Lily would not have gotten so worked up. Maybe if I hadn't waited till I cooled off my decisions would have been different.

Speaking of which, I have to replay episode 3 before I play episode 4. I pushed the guy off the overpass, as a joke. I didn't mean to keep it I just wanted to see the outcome. But the damn thing made an autosave the second I did it. I don't want that to keep coming up seeing as the guy broke his leg.

I actually really enjoyed episode 4 despite the douchey IGN reviewer (Greg Miller I think...) not really caring for it. This is because you finally get a proper feel for how the zombie outbreak has really done its toll on humanity and has made society desperate to the point of doing irrational things. For instance, look at the societal structure of Crawford. Stupid in concept and completely unsustainable over an extended period of time, not to mention the extreme inequality. The people-in-power in this society were scared and their completely unreasonable society demonstrated their fear to hold on to whatever they still have.

I personally would have loved to see Crawford with its "exclusionist, 'must pull your weight'" policy in its prime or heyday. It did lead to an interesting backstory for Molly.

However after episode 3's giant "WHAT THE FUCKING HELL?" moment (well a couple moments actually), I can see why episode 4 may seem "tame" in comparison. Both episodes were engaging in different, enjoyable ways.

The thing with Crawford is that it's highly similar to Woodbury from the comics/tv series. It's gonna come crashing down to shit sometime. Anyways, I'm ready for episode 5. I just hope Lee don't die all stupid and shit.

I wonder how season 2 will be like. New characters or more Clementine? More Lee (if he lives)? More Kenny?
