I'm sorry you think school is a waste of time. For someone like me who had ZERO automotive experience/knowledge going into the classes, this was the only way for me to get into this field. And since I like cars so much and enjoy working on them, the money doesn't matter so much.

If I had an uncle who worked on cars, and taught me since I was a kid, I would skip school altogether and just take the ASE certification tests, but I didn't have that luxury.

ahhhh its nothing against you and what you want for your future. Its a commendable thing actually. Just me being in theis business for so long, I know how the industry works and I know what its like to be a tech and struggle with various shit. This business isnt what it used to be. The top dealerships and shops these days are hiring the first moron out of high school with a tool box that says that can turn wrenches. I have watched the industry plummet in the last 10 years and its quite frieghtening.

I have taught automotive classes. I have seen some of the people that take these classes. I have also seen the wretched teachers that teach these kids. Like the blind leading the blind.

Nevermind my rant. You for sure have an uphill battle so be prepared for that. I guess thats more of what I was trying to say. When choosing a place to work. Keep in mind money isnt always the most important thing. New shops these days are lasting a few years tops then going belly up. Then the more established shops have owners that are bitter about the economy and arent putting much more back into the business and are giving up hope as well. You want a place that is established, has been around for a long time and has a loyal clientel. The shops you see with all the fancy paint and high tech equipment and a 10 bay shop with 5 service writes 25 mechanics and all this extravagent shit, run away....run far away.

^Every time I see one of your automotive industry rants it reminds me of the idiots that were in the Harley Davidson class I was in while I was in High School.
 
My problem is Ive been in it to long and no longer enjoy cars all that much. at least working on them for a living. I used to LOVE working on cars. I would beg people to just let me turn some bolts...no charge. But now its a job. I wish I would have gotten into something else. Cause I miss the joy I used to get when I pulled out my wrenches and went to work.

Good lesson here: Be very careful what yall choose for a career. Try not to take hobbies that you love so much and use them to make a living. It will spoil all the love you have for that hobby

I think getting anytype of further education is important. however like HRD i've scene younger generation think they are entitled to everything instead of trying to earn it. I worked my ass off to get to where I am
