The Movies Thread

most overrated: forrest gump (could you please tell me without hating what´s so good about this movie? i can asure you im not trolling, this is just my opinion).

Well you see... Uhhh.. The thing of it is that... Uh.... Well, what you have to understand is.. That... Uh... The power of myth is such that... Huh. ... Okay. I'm stumped.

Okay in all seriousness I think there's what Chuck said, but I also think you have schlocky elements that appeal to some people. Mainly people in the middle of America. Forrest works hard, he's honest (as he is not clever enough to lie), he's helpful and he never judges anyone. Somehow these American values carry him very far. Forrest also never stops to really doubt himself, as he is too dim to calculate the true gravitas of a phrase or the consequence of action. As a result he can accomplish anything because he is not mired by doubt. Then there's the jingoism. Where else could any man do anything but America right? Naturally. Now don't get me wrong, I think it's a pretty pointless movie and the heights of his accomplishments, while often tounge in cheek, are so exaggerated that it's stupid. The thing exists as a love letter to the baby boom generation and little else. That said I can see what some people probably like about the movie.

Everything is from the perspective of a literal special ed character, so even the majority of Americans can comprehend it. Y'know, it was the only movie that decade that didn't go over the heads of its audience?

Kinda like Inception, except without pretending to be clever.

Speaking of pretending to be clever, you should stop trying. You suck at it.
