It sounds like you kind of know he's a bit annoying and consequently only like him a little. You're not sure he has romantic feelings for you. It is the boring answer, but maybe if you can get over what seems to be less-than-burning desire it would be best to avoid the situation and just enjoy being his friend.

The point should be made, though, that the fun option of asking him out and potentially dating could be valuable for its own sake. Even if it's disappointing or you fall out or whatever, this is how we learn. And, of course, you could find that everything goes far better than expected.

Thanks, I'll probably go for the latter and just see where it goes. The real trouble is actually asking him out and the tension leading up to that moment.
