Keep it classy, and no emotional stuff. This guy sounds pretty shady. You'll only get hurt if you get with this guy, trust me.

Update of my own:
I cut off my friend pretty much altogether. Haven't talked to him or even looked at him since it happened. I'm definitely happier for it.
