Okay so we know they were stranded on a boat, I'm guessing a raft of some kind?

The boat crashed and caused an explosion because of seagull poop on the sensors? You know, the navigation equipment?

The dad is mad at the son because he didn't clean up the bird poop which lead to a boat crash?

Perhaps the dad ordering seagulls was to rub it in? You know, guilt tripping?
