Skyrim

Well I'm back from my quest and I made the "True Nord Challenge!... Challenge... challenge..."
I spent the the break playing Skyrim, and I have been and done just about everything.
While I was playing I figured it was too easy. So to make things more challengeing I decided to make my own Skyrim challenge.
Thus made the "True Nord Challenge!"
1: Play as the Nord race.
2: Turn the difficulty to the max!
3: No fast traveling.
4: Once you've started the "Companions Quest", finish it and get rid of the Werewolf ability so there will be no resistance to deseases.
5: Have fun!
I myself have been playing this challenge, and have died several dozen times. To be honest if I can finish this challenge I would honestly say that I can die happily... Well not until I've played Soul Calibur 5 at least.

oblivion is way better than skyrim. Character customization is a joke and the game is WAY easier that Oblivion.

In order to make potions/poisons now, you have to go to an "alchemy station". No more making the right potion/poison when you need it NOW. There's been several times in Oblivion where I needed just one water breathing potion to get past a part, and TADA! Just as long as your carrying the right ingredients! Oh and did I mention that FOOD can no longer be used in alchemy?? How gay is that??

Also, often my characters revolved around using multiple spells/weapons. In Skyrim, I have to pause the fucking game, go into my "favorite" list, and equip it, and to top it off, I cant have a sword and shield while casting spells. The dual wielding and duel casting mechanic doesn't make up for the constant pauses.

Critical hit is a good idea in theory, I just don't wanna see another Matrix-style slow time animation anymore. That crap got old after the first 3 times it happened.

Oh and did I mention no more custom-created spells either? You could make some very interesting combinations of effects in spells in Oblivion, like a summon combined with invisibility.

As far as aesthetic beauty, Oblivion wins once again. The landscape is much more diverse, colorful, and interesting. ESPECIALLY in the Shivering Isles, god that place was epic!

The big map in Skyrim, while 3d this time, can be quite confusing. I much prefer the straightforwardness of oblivion's simple 2d map.

And for those of you who claim that the leveling system in Oblivion was bad, that just means you didn't build your character right, plain and simple. Trust me I know, I had to create several characters before I had one that was worthy enough to play at the hardest difficulty.

The monsters and NPC's scaled up as you leveled up, meaning that if you have any of your major skills being something that WON'T help you in battle, you did it wrong. Me and just about everyone one of my close friends all say Oblivion is better.

I tried playing Morrowind, but NOT having fast travel really killed it for me. 90% of the time I spent playing was going from one place to another, so I had to put it down, although my hardcore elder Scroll fan friends say Morrowind was the best/hardest. Maybe I'm just not patient enough.

Aye, I have to agree with many of the points you made. I'm in love with Skyrim but I think some things were better in Oblivion.

- I don't like how Skyrim got limited in many areas compared to Oblivion. Character creation serves much less purpose. They got rid of classes, attributes etc...

- The lack of old hotkeys is just terrible, I think the "favorites" list is what annoys me the most right now.

- Graphically, Skyrim wins, of course. But as far as design goes, I think most people will agree that Oblivion was more interesting, but it was only because it had taken place in Cyrodiil. Skyrim is known to be a cold place so making it as diverse as Cyrodiil wouldn't make any sense. At lest the snow regions in Skyrim look very good compared to the previous game. Dugeons/ruins design is also much better in Skyrim, though.

- I love the combat system. It's much more fun than in Oblivion imo, it has more depth and strategy. I'm also glad that opponent's magic projectiles don't track anymore =P Critical hits are fun in my opinion.

- 3rd person view is improved but I was still disappointed with it. I hate how the camera slowly zooms at you when you switch from TPP to FPP, it can be very annoying sometimes, especially when you use TPP for exploring. The change should be in an instant. And also when you switch to TPP it zooms too far, I hate it! But I was able to change it with a few mods.

- I always play a mage character but this time magic is crippled. At least half of the old magic effects seem to be gone, which sucks. Not to mention custom spells. At least spells have more diverse animations and there's dual cast, so it still makes casting somewhat fun.

Well, I'm only couple hours into the game but those are my impressions. I won't mention bugs because they are integral part of the series, haha.

It is so much better, just get used to it. Fucking quest objective arrows and fast travel play the game for you in Oblivion/Skyrim.

Anyway there is some fast travel in Morrowing in the form of striders and boats, you just have to know where you can get from where, and it's town to town only.
