So a female ninja is called a Kunoichi. Legend has it, that the name comes from Kyu (the number 9) and Ichi (the number 1) referring to a woman having 9 holes like a man, plus an additional one. In other words, a female ninja is 10 holes (9 plus one or kunoichi) while a male ninja is just a ninja: nothing special about 9 holes.
