Opinion: On Sexualization in Video Games

Video games culture (at its most “hardcore”) is, after all, already a shunned, de-masculinized (in the public eye) subset of white guy culture. White men who are dorks or gamers have struggled to build up some new brand of masculinity (which will never be as good, white, and manly as proper mainstream masculinity, and white guy geeks know this) around their deplored hobby, and, as always, once they solidified that identity, they needed a new Other, a new group to define as being less than and harmful to the grand, old tradition of white male gaming. In the kingdom of the white gamer, anyone obviously not white and/or male, or anyone professing to enjoy sexuality not strictly in line with white heterosexuality is both a worry and a threat.

Only Americans have a problem with sex in video games, particularly crusty white people. Americans have a problem with sex in anything outside of porn. Violence is fine, even ultra violence to a point, but show a titty and controversy ensues. Plus most Americans still view video games as a toy played by kids instead of a medium like movies. So put sex in a video game, and people go OMG think about the children who may play a game that's specifically for adults.

well once again this comes down to the thing that so many parents seem to suck at...parenting....if a game isnt for ur child(and u can tell by the rating) then DONT BUY THE GAME AND BITCH THAT THE CONTENT WASNT RIGHT FOR UR KID(S)....dumbass motherfuckers....and if ur child somehow manages to get the game..cause some ppl have cool grandmas and what not. then dont let them play it. if they manage to play it behind ur back then once again ur parenting FAILS if they play it at a friends house and u dont like it oh fucking well thats not ur house and not ur kid so shut the fuck up about it....and lastly if u had these kinds of parents growing up no offense but that shit makes no sense and if u think it does wait til u grow up and then come talk to me.

funny thing is ull let ur kid watch a R rated movie(hell some parents let their kids watch porn) but they cant play CoD cause the violence is "too realistic". and resident evil is to scary but ur kid has seen the fucking movies....and dawn of the dead...and all the other countless zombie movies....ppl like this sicken me...nudity in games...oh no thats wrong...but ur kid has seen movies like basic instinct, species, monsters ball and shit like that....ya....go sit on a mace
 
Uh. games haven't managed to portray well adjusted or realistic MALE characters, why would you expect them to have decent female characters? This whole discussion seems to be made of fail; games are not a good storytelling medium, and my mind boggles when people expect them to be. At their absolute finest they approach run-of-the-mill Hollywood blockbusters.

Really, this seems almost like nitpicking. They don't do hardly ANYTHING right outside of shooting things or hitting monsters with swords.
