am watching Ghost Stories. English of course. most of the voices are the same people that did Pani Poni Dash. and with that ad lib script, one of the funniest anime i've seen in a while. just makes me wonder if the japanese dub is serious but now that i've watched it in English i can't watch it in Japanese. that's like trying to watch one of the movies that Scary Movie makes fun of. You're gonna think about the Scary Movie parts whenever you see the same scene in the actual movie.

I don't really understand that lol. Scary Movie and all the movies they make fun of are all different things. It's easy to separate them because they're different.
Ghost Stories is HILARIOUS in english yet totally serious in japanese.
The show flopped, as in one of the worst anime to debut in japan ever, and was so bad the company got ADV to take it and do whatever they could to it to try and make a little bit of money from this show. Thus that dub happened.
I'm not sure if it helped any but man i'm glad they did it.

You see the new movie art style? I'm mad at it for using a majority Cell-Shaded CG for the fights and stuff.

Going to watch Mirai Nikki(thank you HolyCarp and Pyrrus!) and Serial Experiments Lain next. How low should I set my expectations? I'm expecting the former to be...more low brow and the latter to be extremely pretentious, but I'm expecting both to be enjoyable.

I'm just curious why people insist on using the Japanese words for the title. It strikes me as, and no offense here, minorly pretentious. Like using the word mangaka when author would suffice or sommelier when when you could just say "wine expert".

Lain is pretty good but you have to reeeeeally think outside the box and have an expansive imagination to understand the characters and plot. I personally love the anime but that's just me.

Well in some cases it's well worth it to say mangaka over author. Take Romeo x Juliet. If we say author one may think William himself while saying mangaka would imply the manga specifically.
That and most mangaka are both the author and illustrator of the story, so making it a single word is useful.
