I haven't seen a new anime that I have enjoyed in years. People tell me to watch Eden of the East but I'm not sure. Suggestions?
I watched two episodes of Eden of the East but I wasn't really feeling it. Dunno why exactly. Interestingly enough I see people compare it to the Bourne films and I hate those with a passion. I may take another crack at it. I may not. There may be some common element between it and Bourne however that I hate. Consequentially I may never like it. But tell me what you've liked man.
Three newer ones I've seen and liked were Darker Than Black, Future Diary and so far I'm digging Sword Art Online (as of episode 6). Though your mileage on anything may vary. I played WOW for five years, so I probably get "more out of" Sword Art Online than somebody who doesn't have an MMO background. Someone who likes Tarentino flicks will probably enjoy Black Lagoon more than somebody who doesn't and so forth.
I can make recommendations and you can probably tell objectively if a show is quality or not, but that doesn't mean you'll actually "enjoy" yourself. I do hope you like something I recommend, though your best bet when it comes to recommendations will probably still be to take the Henny Youngman route, "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks".
If you feel like trying something unique, Spice and Wolf is probably my favorite show from the last five years. It's got plot lines, yo. There is little to no action to speak of, but there are economics, mysteries, some romance and... yes, gratuitous nudity. Watch the dub if you can, it's well done. That is, if you actually wind up liking the show. It's surprisingly cerebral, but so are you, so maybe a good fit? It has a sense of humor but it's oddly rooted in reality for a show with fantasy elements. Not one sexual nosebleed occurs nor is anyone ever punched into a star.
