It's interesting the difference between Berserk's nudity and Gantz's nudity. IMO I don't consider Berserk's nudity to be fanservice. It's more of an imagery thing, where the world seems to be really fucked up. Gantz's nudity is so obscure you might say it sets the mood/tone...but to me it's just fanservice.

Claymore also has nudity, but I have never really found it fap friendly.

That's your opinion. Fan service in my opinion serves nothing other than sexual appeal to sell shit. Now of course if you're immature then I guess any kind of nudity can turn you on, and I can see how you would consider all nudity as fanservice.

Berserk and Claymore fall into this middle age setting. Where armies/bandits etc attacked villages pillaging and raping women. And they both having these biblical demonic themes going for them. Very Conan the barbarian esque if you will. So having those mangas/anime with nudity/rape actually enhances the setting.

Like in Claymore the symbolism, I think is the word... giving into your desires turns you into a monster completely consumed by hunger and greed. The abyssal ones represent one who's consumed with lust, rage, greed etc. There nudity is symbolic to that point. But it's a grotesque nudity. The warriors themselves are almost never seen fully nude, because apparently their bodies are mutilated. The Juxtaposition of the abyssal ones, the claymores with Sainty names, completely covered up white costumes, represent hope, purity, etc.

So I don't really think that you would get the same depth from the mangas both claymore and berserk without the nudity/rape themes.

Gantz doesn't need the hundred titties alien thingy... it just doesn't.

i agree with KingAce. not everything is fanservice just because it's nudity. if that was the case then nude art and sketchs sole purpose is to arouse people sexually and for no other purpose (which kind of destroys the "art" concept). haven't watch Gantz or Berserk but i've seen movies where there's nudity but not for fan service. the world isn't Black & White
