Prices do change... Evangelion on VHS was $30 a tape, with only 2 episodes on it.

GOOD ANIME?
The Vision of Escaflowne TV
The Record of Lodoss War OVA
Legend of the Galactic Heroes TV
Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu
The Kind of the Stars Saga
Please Save My Earth the Movie
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann TV
Marmalade Boy TV
Hikaru no Go TV
RahXephon TV

It amazes me how people can like such shitty anime... Then I realise its because they haven't seen better. They have been introduced into anime by those hacks at Cartoon Network and because of it, have no culture for the great stuff. I've forgotten more good anime than people will probably see in their entire lifetime.

I like:
Jin-Roh, Macross Zero, Dai Mahou Touge.

Honorable mentions:
Perfect Blue, Initial D (season 4 was ), Macross Frontier, Excel Saga, Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, Millenium Actress, Lodoss, Love Hina, Appleseed, Blood the Last Vampire, Genocyber

Stuff that I don't like:
Macross 7, Wrath of the Ninja, Dragon Ball ___, Ghost in the Shell

Honestly, the reason people prefer dubs is because they don't want to have to read. I can understand in some cases...these people aren't all stupid, they're just not weeabuses.

I gladly accept retarded subs of Naruto over the English dub. I hope that voice actor dies, he's like Ash Ketchum only wearing Pikachu as a hairpiece.

The person who voices Naruto (in both subs and dubs) is a girl, actually. Er, hem...believe it.

I'd have to disagree with the hate of dubs, though. I've always thought people who watched subs exclusively were close-minded, and frankly, elitist. It was originally aired in Japan so we can only watch it in Japanese? Come on, now. That kind of thinking put George W. Bush in office. Don't get me wrong, I love watching subs, but given the choice, I would generally take the dubs.

I GENERALLY prefer subs over dubs, and I'll take JP voices if I can because usually (and I stress the word HARSHLY) the Japanese VAs portray the character closer to the original script better than the English VA (case and point, TIRA)

That's not to say, however, that all English VAs suck hard sweaty balls. I've seen good dubs, and I have a certain respect for English VAs who can do accurate (or even BETTER) portrayals of their Japanese counterparts. I thought the dubbing job on Persona 3 was AWESOME. Liam O'Brian as Akihiko actually sounded more natural to me than Hikaru Midorikawa. To be honest, I actually appreciate Yuri Lowenthal's voice as Sasuke because he actually MANAGES to sound like a 12-year old, unlike his angsty JP counterpart (besides which, I hate Naruto with a passion. I just play the Narutimate games because they are fun and make Temari cool =D).

But I digress; this isn't a thread about Dubs vs Subs, it's about anime. So here comes my highest recommendation:

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Clearly the most BIZARRE and HILARIOUS anime I've seen in ages since Excel Saga (it COMPETES for "Funniest Anime" with Excel, IMO). SZS follows the tale of Nozomu Itoshiki, a schoolteacher by trade and also the world's most negative man. One day while trying to hang himself, he is met by Fuura Kafuka, schoolgirl by trade and also the world's most positive girl. When she finds out that Itoshiki-sensei is her homeroom teacher, hijinks and mayhem with the rest of the bizarre and demented homeroom class ensue.

If you're a fan of Studio SHAFT-style comedy and dark humor, SZS is the way to go. Quirky, fast-paced humor and Japanese culture jokes strewn about the screen flying at you at light speed, sprinkled on top of Koji Kumeta's original morbid and twisted (without being sick) dark humor. I'm not surprised it has little mention, because it hasn't been localized yet. You might be able to find it on Youtube, or on Asian programming 'tube sites like http://www.crunchyroll.com/

I've been afraid to step into the Bleach pool just because of how popular it is, and that it'll break my heart and leave me unemployed with 3 kids the way Naruto did. Can anyone drop me a good summary of anything that makes Bleach different from your run-of-the-mill high-action shounen anime?

HOLDONWHAT. O_O

Yeah, alot of people don't want to be reading when they're supposed to be watching something. Television isn't meant for watching: it's meant for background noise with a laugh-track so you can look up to see what was so funny.

Honestly, the reason people prefer dubs is because they don't want to have to read. I can understand in some cases...these people aren't all stupid, they're just not weeabuses.
Hmm, I've never had to "look up" so i guess i dont really understand where the problem is. Maybe I just dont have to focus on the subs.

Hmm. . . I've seen a few of those oddly enough i dont think any of those series are different to Shana, So i dont quite see how its a shitty series.

My main problem is i get into a series and poor acting and conveying of emotions from english VA's kills the overall entertainment and quality of the dub. Armitage III Poly Matrix and Armitage III Dual Matrix dont count as dubs though, sometiems i think those two movies were done in English originally anyways.

EDIT: I dont think ive recomended any anime... I recomend everything i've seen but if i must name some...
