And I might as well mention that Chie is a huge reference to Ciel. However she doesn't appear until the later episodes.

I've been watching anime for quite a while and I've been keeping up with the current releases. The series I've watched are probably too numerous to list and it would probably be best if I didn't do so.

Anyway, has anyone seen Steins;Gate yet? I know it's by the same writer as Chaos;Head but I haven't tried it out yet.

What do you recommend for a man who likes intelligent writing, prefers a show where people don't get punched into the sky by schoolgirls and gets annoyed when every character on a show is a child?

In Cross Game they're at least teenagers, and it manages to sidestep all the obvious cliches, even when the characters seemed destined for stupidity.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is rather good for intelligent writing, the main character is a teacher easily in his 20s. A lot of the characters are his class (which is about 75% female) but the cast also includes his random public figures and adults.

Ex:

The Kara no Kyoukai series of movies is also a good option, physics are approximately normal, everyone involved is at least college age, and there's a lot of philosophical banter. Especially the epilogue which is 30 min of pure philosophical banter.

That's just off the top of my head. I could probably name more after looking through what I've seen.
