Well, that's the state of the current industry. Even if it was licensed, Americans wouldn't ever get the same limited edition package. At least the blu-ray has english subtitles, though it will cost an arm and a leg to get for a single movie.
 
I have the first 20-30 fansubbed VHS tapes of Legend of Galactic Heroes. Would be willing to ship it via media mail to anyone who wants it. Better than throwing it away.
 
UH ME first of all because it's fucking great and I agree that it needs to be licensed, but who would do it now? I mean Bandai got Crest of the Stars so their space operas are done for as far as their concerned i'm sure.
