According to MK Wikia - both were voiced by the same person - Karen Strassman.

My guess a bit closer to release. I mean, we all know how Mortal Kombat does "New". Ie: The newbies roster post MK1-3 were awful.

When are they going to show off some more new characters?

My bet is we are almost done with new characters, may be a couple more remains only and one of them will be the boss. From now Its going to be mostly old characters. May be we will see a huge design development in some of them though.
