MN player - Finally made an account

[01] Neophyte
I've been a fan of the Soul Calibur series ever since Soul Calibur II. I've played all of them except Soul Edge, but never played them to a competetive level.

I am primarily a smash bros. player, but Soul Calibur has always been my favorite "traditional" fighting game.

I created this account for three purposes,

#1 - To personally thank Jaxel and the 8wayrun community for their tremendous support in the Apex series. (So, is there anyone who can beat Woahzz? =P)

#2 - To connect with other players in Minnesota, in hopes of bringing players from both the MN Smash community and MNFGC together. (Starting with SCV, since it's my favorite.)

#3 - To have a place to look up information, ask questions etc. about SCV, in case one day I may actually take my enjoyment of the Soul Calibur series to a competetive level.

- Thanks again, and if any MN players are reading this, maybe I'll see you at a future Comicade tournament!

Thanks for welcoming me!

Currently my best characters are Siegfried, Nightmare, and Mitsurugi. I've always been a Siegfried player in every game, including the dreamcast version ported to Xbox live, (obviously Nightmare in SCII), and SCV is no different. However, SCV is the first version since they changed Nightmare in SCIII that I've actually kinda liked him. I know most of his basic combos, but my execution is a little slower than Siegfried, so I imagine that if I got generally better at the game I might main him in tournament.

From what I've seen of both characters in tournament videos, it seems Nightmare's combos are just more punishing, so he can do a large amount of damage really quickly, where as Siegfried just kinda has to endure the match, and hope he scores a few more small hits than his opponent.

Just curious, but I saw that OmegaDR went Siegfried against a few people in the same tournament he won as Nightmare. Is this because Siegfried can handle certain match-ups better than Nightmare? Or is it because he just prefers to play Siegfried, but he pulls out Nightmare against players he doesn't think he could beat as Siegfried?

He pulled out Siegfried to beat Keev's Nightmare because he didn't want to play a Nightmare mirror match. And Siegfried/Nightmare are usually weak to the same characters as they both are spacing type characters. (They like keeping their distance from their opponents).

Both characters can work, I would say overall Nightmare has better damage but Sieg has better pokes.
