Tao Feng was a fighting game created back in 2003 or 2004 by John Tobias, former co-creator of Mortal Kombat. The game was released exclusively on Xbox and it was well received by critics. It may not be as famous or well known as Mortal Kombat, let alone any fighting game to be exact but a crossover with MK, especially with its newfound revival would bring Tao Feng into the mainstream.

I don't think it is hard for them to, maybe its because the developers are struggling with deadlines and lined up games. The more demand you recieve, the more work you do. I know for a fact that in the fighting genre SC and Tekken are rivals like Capcom and Marvel are. I'm sure with these two extremely popular games, we'll get it one day.

Tao Feng featured character damage prior to MK having it. Clothes, bruises and cuts would appear on fighters as they fought. You could also leverage parts of the terrain to do some fun stuff including enhanced damage, knockdowns, "special" moves, etc. The most important thing to remember is that the story goes something like: "All of the fighters here are in search of the peach of immortality.." Not the fruit or treasure, but explicitly the peach.
Tobias and Boon have worked together since their split on MK but Tobias was the driving force behind Tao Feng, it's story and some of the mechanics.
On a side note, that game still isn't in the 360 compatibility list and it pisses me off. :(
